“European Capital of Smart Tourism 2020”
By initiating the competition “European Capital of Smart Tourism 2020”, the European Commission aims to honor remarkable, innovative and sustainable achievements of European cities.
To compete for the title “European Capital of Smart Tourism 2020”, cities are asked to demonstrate their innovative tourism practices in the areas of accessibility, sustainability, digitalisation, cultural heritage and creativity. The competition is open to cities in the EU with a population of over 100,000. In countries where no city has more than 100,000 inhabitants, the largest city is eligible to apply.
After the evaluation by independent experts, the selected cities will be asked to present their city’s candidature to the European jury. The jury will then select two winners that will be announced at an award ceremony in October 2019.
Communication and branding experts will support the two winning cities until 2020. This includes the production of a promotional video, a giant sculpture to be installed in a prominent location, various promotional activities and visibility on EU level. In addition, four cities that achieve the best results in each category will be honored with the European Smart Tourism Award 2020.
Applications can be submitted by city representatives via the online form.
The deadline for applications is May 10, 2019 at 18:00 CET.
