Project title: EDUFOOD BSR
Project objective: Project aims to help schools, municipalities and public catering professionals increase children’s acceptance of healthier and more sustainable food through sensory food education. The project seeks to improve the quality of school meals, reduce food waste and promote healthier eating habits among children.
WHY WAS THIS PROJECT INITIATED?
The project was developed to address the challenges faced by schools across the Baltic Sea Region. Although healthier and more sustainable meals are increasingly being introduced in school canteens, many primary school pupils are reluctant to accept unfamiliar foods and new flavours. As a result, food waste increases, while schools and municipalities often lack effective tools to foster a positive attitude towards food among children.
hOW WILL THE PROJECT PROMOTE CHILDREN’S ACCEPTANCE OF FOOD?
The EDUFOOD BSR project implements the SAPERE sensory food education method, which encourages children to explore food through their senses, curiosity and voluntary tasting. During the project, training sessions will be organised for teachers and school catering professionals, pilot activities will be carried out in schools, and partners from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will exchange knowledge and good practices.
WHAT RESULTS ARE EXPECTED?
The project will train professionals, implement and evaluate pilot activities, and adapt SAPERE educational materials for use in other schools and municipalities. It will contribute to reducing food waste, promoting a more sustainable food culture and supporting the development of public catering services that better meet children’s needs.
